Our Sanctuary

Whispering Rise Farm Animal Sanctuary (WRFAS) began in 2011 on 6 acres in Northern Baltimore County. Gordy & Willie were the first two potbellies that called the sanctuary their forever home. They now share their wooded acres with 60+ potbellied pig friends.

The founder, Jeff Lambert, is a long-time animal welfare, child welfare, and environmental activist.

“I worked in child welfare programs for 30 years in Virginia and Maryland. I want to create a place where these three interests can intersect for the benefit of people and animals.”

Jeff has a passion for pigs and a gift for sharing the “pig magic” with volunteers, visitors and community members during the many outreach activities he participates in.

Our Mission

Willie & Gordy – our first residents

Whispering Rise Farm offers an intersection of animal welfare, humane education, and environmental education. The mission of the sanctuary is to provide a safe forever-home for rescued and surrendered potbellied pigs while educating the public about the miniature pig pet trade and best practices in potbellied pig care. The sanctuary provides a hands-on anthrozoological experience to individuals and small groups.

The sanctuary welcomes children and adults who are seeking a volunteer or community service experience, or who are looking for a more intense spiritual or emotional connection to animals in need.  WRFAS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
